Getting stumped trying to add pizza to your MyFitnessPal app? Well, we have you covered on how to do just that!

If you’ve lately been trying to keep on top of your fitness levels, or you simply want to make sure you’re getting the healthiest diet possible with all the right calorie requirements, you might have heard of MyFitnessPal before.

It’s an app that helps you track calories, as well as the specific protein, carbohydrates, and fats that are in each meal.

I use it to help keep on top of my calories and understand what I’m putting in my body. Though there do come days when I fancy being a bit adventurous and it’s good to know that you can count on MyFitnessPal to keep you in check.

I had a pizza just last night and I was wondering to myself how I should enter it on the app to get the best information possible. Unsurprisingly, it’s incredibly easy!

Entering Your Shop-Bought Pizza

MyFitnessPal allows you to enter a whole selection of foods from all around the world. In fact, they’ve come along so far in the last five years that they even now have a barcode scanner that allows you to specifically scan exactly what you’ve got. This comes in handy when you’ve bought a pizza from the shop and have a barcode readily available.

All you have to do is load the scanner up and take a picture of the barcode, the app does the rest for you. I’ve yet to find any product in any store I’ve been to that isn’t already listed on MyFitnessPal. There are so many users all around the globe entering new food items every day, that you’d have a harder time finding something that doesn’t exist on their database than you would find something that does.

Entering Popular Pizza Chains

The issue arises when you’ve ordered yourself a pizza from some of the popular chains like Dominos or Pizza Hut. Naturally, their boxes don’t come with a scannable barcode because you’re not paying for them on a cash register like a supermarket. Most of the payment is either done online or over the counter before the pizza is even made.

For these, you’ll need to know what pizza you’ve gone for and you’ll want to search. I’ve done this many times before, so I can assure you that it does work.

In fact, I even had a look just before writing this blog post to double-check. I compared the options available on all the popular pizza chains menus to the options available for entry on MyFitnessPal and was surprised to see that they were all there.

All you need to do is enter your pizza and the size you’ve got to get a spot-on result of how many calories were in there. Let’s say you got the Pepperoni Passion Pizza, in a large size. Simply typing “large pepperoni passion dominos” into MyFitnessPal will be enough to get the result. Then it’s a simple click and boom. The job is done.

Why Do You Need To Track It?

It helps to track everything that goes into your body when you’re trying to follow an app like MyFitnessPal. Yes, technically there is nothing “fit” about eating a pizza, but it’s still food and still contains calories that can impact your health and fitness goals.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t eat them, but it also means you should keep on top of tracking them to ensure you’re keeping yourself accountable at all times.

I like to consider myself fairly healthy, but an odd pizza here and there can’t help. It’s still good to know how many calories one specific pizza is for me. That way I can work the rest of my diet that day (if there’s any left!) around what I’ve already consumed with the pizza.

If MyFitnessPal was going to judge me for inputting pizza in the first place, I don’t think they ever would have allowed them to be listed on the app!

And if none of my methods work for you, check out this helpful video from Trainer Lindsey on how to manually enter items in MyFitnessPal:

Summary

Hopefully, I’ve cleared up any questions you might have had related to using MyFitnessPal as a means to track your pizza. Don’t feel ashamed to get it tracked on the app just because it’s not healthy.

It’s good to list out all your calories every day so you know what you’re getting.

Either way, I hope you’ve found it just as easy as I did to get your pizzas on the app. They’ve had plenty of updates in recent times that makes adding meals like pizzas a breeze. Even if they’re from your local takeaway restaurant and don’t have a scannable barcode, you’ll still be able to search for it and add it that way!
